How Fatigue Testing Works
No mystery, no runaround. Here is exactly how a fatigue evaluation works at Wilmington Functional Medicine — from your first free call to a plan built around what your testing actually shows.
The Short Version
Fatigue is rarely explained by one thing, so we do not use a one-size-fits-all protocol. We combine your story, a structured clinical evaluation, and targeted lab testing to find the specific contributors to your low energy — then we explain what we found and what to do about it. The right tests for the right clinical picture, not everything for everyone.
Step 1: Free 15-Minute Discovery Call
Everything starts with a conversation, not a commitment. On a free 15-minute call, we review your symptoms, what you have already tried, and what testing you have already had. We explain what a root-cause evaluation would involve and honestly tell you whether our approach is a fit for your situation. If it is, we schedule the evaluation. If it is not, you will still leave with a clearer picture of your options.
Book your free discovery call or call (910) 444-9438 — whichever is easier.
Step 2: Structured Evaluation and Targeted Testing
Your initial consultation is a clinical review of your symptoms, health history, and any relevant prior testing. From that picture we select the tests that will actually move the needle. Depending on your case, that may include comprehensive blood testing (iron studies with ferritin and binding capacity, a full thyroid panel with antibodies when appropriate, Lyme and EBV markers, CBC and metabolic markers), the Organic Acids Test for cellular energy patterns, an adrenal stress profile for cortisol patterns across the day, stool and gut testing including H. pylori screening, spirometry, and EKG.
Testing happens either in our Wilmington office or remotely across North Carolina — mailed kits for urine, saliva, and stool samples, and a blood draw at a lab near you. If you are asking "where can I get fatigue testing done near me" and the answer is "I can barely get off the couch," the remote option exists precisely for you.
Ready for Real Answers About Your Fatigue?
Book a free 15-minute discovery call. No cost, no obligation — just a straight conversation about your symptoms and whether root-cause testing is right for you. Available in Wilmington, NC or remotely across North Carolina.
Step 3: Root-Cause Review and Personalized Plan
Once results are in, we sit down with them. Not a printout in an envelope — a real review of what the testing revealed, connected back to your symptoms and history. You will learn which findings matter most, what is likely driving your fatigue, and what to address first. Your plan is prioritized and practical, with follow-up support based on your results and how you respond to recommendations.
You can read more about the drivers we commonly find on our conditions pages, or start with why am I always tired?
How to Prepare
- Gather any recent lab work or specialist notes you already have — there is no sense re-running what has already been answered
- Make a simple symptom timeline: when the fatigue started and what was happening around that time
- Write down your medications, supplements, and major health history
- List your top questions — the discovery call and results review are where they get answered
For tests done from home, we send clear collection instructions with the kits, including timing for samples like the adrenal saliva profile.
None of this takes heroic preparation. Most patients spend twenty minutes getting organized before the discovery call, and we handle the ordering, shipping, and scheduling for everything that follows.
